San Juan Chamula está ubicado en las zonas más altas de Chiapas, y conserva las culturas y costumbres prehispánicas.
En San Juan Chamula se produce pox (se pronuncia posh), un aguardiente regional utilizado en actos ceremoniales. Es una bebida muy fuerte hecha mediante la fermentación del maíz.
Para los extranjeros tanto nacionales como internacionales se les pide una cooperación para poder entrar a la iglesia de Chamula, en el interior de la iglesia no hay bancas, ya que los chamulas se arrodillan en el piso para hacer sus oraciones, hay muchas velas de todos los tamaños y colores, así como en las paredes de la iglesia hay varios santos a los que se les cuelgan espejos, se dice que es para reflejar la maldad.
